چکیده

Although some of the platinum(II/IV) and rhodium(III) chemistry is considered ‘old’ and wellknown, the application of modern multinuclear NMR spectroscopic methods to this chemistry in solution reveals new details about their rich and relevant solution chemistry. In this paper we will briefly illustrate that the highly-sensitive 195 Pt NMR shielding is an excellent probe to explore aspects such as solvation, ion-pairing, and the hydrolysis chemistry of inter alia [PtCl6-n(H2O)n] n-2 (n=0-5). Moreover the novel use of 35 Cl/ 37 Cl and 18 O isotopes effects as unique NMR ’fingerprints’ leading to a new and unambiguous method of chemical speciation of the numerous possible Pt II/IV and Rh III complexes present in halide-rich aqueous solutions. In the case of Rh(III) chemistry a new, direct speciation distribution diagram has been established for [RhCln(H2O)6-n] 3-n complexes (n = 3-6) in HCl solution at 292 K with these methods.

Adopting New International Health Instruments – What Can We Learn From the FCTC?; Comment on “The Legal Strength of International Health Instruments - What It Brings to Global Health Governance?”

This Commentary forms a response to Nikogosian’s and Kickbusch’s forward-looking perspective about the legal strength of international health instruments. Building on their arguments, in this commentary we consider what we can learn from the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) for the adoption of new legal international health instruments.

The experience of secrecy.

The concept of secrecy calls to mind a dyadic interaction: one person hiding a secret from another during a conversation or social interaction. The current work, however, demonstrates that this aspect of secrecy is rather rare. Taking a broader view of secrecy as the intent to conceal information, which only sometimes necessitates concealment, yields a new psychology of secrecy. Ten studies dem...

A Discrete Kumaraswamy Marshall-Olkin Exponential Distribution

Finding new families of distributions has become a popular tool in statistical research. In this article, we introduce a new flexible four-parameter discrete model based on the Marshall-Olkin approach, namely, the discrete Kumaraswamy Marshall-Olkin exponential distribution. The proposed distribution can be viewed as another generalization of the geometric distribution and enfolds some importan...
